Following the close of a $20 million Series B earlier this summer, Immuta is launching the latest version of its data management platform.
The College Park, Md.–based startup makes a platform that provides a central place for data scientists, companies that own data and lawyers or members of a governance team working together to build algorithms. It allows any data source to connect, and aims to improve the view of what is going into a data science tool.
One goal is to make it easier to enforce policies around the data in regulated environments. With the new version, the company created features that allow organizations to build policies that can be enforced at a global level. That means the policies don’t have to be applied individually.
“While data owners know a lot about their data, they typically know very little about the policies that should be applied to their data, the result being an ad hoc approach to governance,” Steve Touw, Chief Technology Officer at Immuta, said in a statement. “By empowering governance and legal teams to enforce policies on data on a global basis, Immuta is enabling data scientists and compliance teams to work in unison to accelerate data science programs.”
Another feature known as curated data tags are designed to make it easier to search across datasets and columns. Through an interface, information can also now be sourced from external catalogs.
The new features come as the company seeks to expand following the implementation of GDPR regulations and increased visibility on data governance. Following the funding, CEO Matt Carroll said the company is looking to expand in Europe, and also plans to move into a new space in College Park.
