Here’s where you’ll find this Red Tettemer web developer at Philly Tech Week 2015

Fans of civic tech, web design and tech scene inclusivity should definitely check out Joseph Russell's #ptw15 itinerary.

Name: Joseph Russell
Neighborhood: Collingswood, N.J.
Job: Web developer at Red Tettemer O’Connell + Partners
Side Projects: Next PATCO, a PATCO schedule web app; South Jerseyist, an occasional blog about urbanism in South Jersey.
The five events I’ll be attending at this year’s Philly Tech Week are:

1. Arcade @ Dilworth

The renovation of Dilworth Park has been a long time coming, and I’m so happy to see the space being actively used for seasonal events like a skating rink and pop-up shopping. I love the idea of an outdoor arcade right in the middle of the city, especially when it’s accompanied by great 8-bit music artists. (Friday, April 17)

2. Mayoral Forum

With an election coming up this year (don’t forget to vote in the Democratic primary on May 19!), it’s important to hear what the candidates have to say about keeping the momentum of the city’s great entrepreneurial movement. (Monday, April 20)

3. Speed Mentoring with #techInColor

If your mental image of the average tech worker is a white male in his early-20s to mid-30s, you’re only seeing a tiny part of Philadelphia’s tech scene. The Tech in Color event is a fantastic opportunity to meet a diverse array of people in the tech community who you might not otherwise realize are doing some great work in the city. This is an important event that brings people of different backgrounds, ethnicities and sexual orientations together in an industry that sometimes has some very serious diversity and inclusivity issues. (Thursday, April 23)

4. Intuitive Voting

I’m very interested in the intersection of technology and democracy, and I’m excited to see what the Committee of 70 has in mind for creating a more engaged electorate. (Tuesday, April 21)

5. A Web Designer’s Guide to the Real World

Given how important user interface design has become in the every day world, I’m very interested to hear the Tactile Group’s thoughts on what’s being taught in school versus what’s happening in the real world. (Friday, April 17)
