The free two-day event, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania‘s Women in Computer Science (WiCS) club, will happen at Penn’s Engineering School at the Pennovation Center.
RegisterThe event’s last iteration rallied together 100 college and high school women over two days. The devs created software like Bias Buster, a web app that uses text analysis to identify and correct bias, and WordGirl, a web app and Chrome extension that rates webpages for their similarity to a trigger or keyword.
Per organizer Andrea Baric, FemmeHackers at the event will have some pretty legit backing and guidance. “There will be super awesome tech companies like Google, Facebook, Snapchat, Jane Street, and others like The New York Times who will bring women mentors to answer any questions you have.” Baric told Technical.ly in an email.
We noticed an important disclaimer is made on the event’s “About” page. “We realize ‘women’ is a complicated term. Trans/cis/non-binary folks welcomed. Equality for all, y’all.”
Can we get this disclaimer everywhere? Thanks.
