Fearless DevOps engineer Aaron Brooks is launching an online tech bootcamp

Add another offering to the list of local learn-to-code resources: An engineer at downtown Baltimore’s dev shop Fearless is launching an online bootcamp to introduce programming and DevOps skills.

MASTERMND Academy, founded by Fearless DevOps Engineer Aaron Brooks, is scheduled to launch Aug. 12. Classes will be streamed via Twitch twice a week, available to anyone with a Twitch subscription to watch.

Brooks is active as an instructor and organizer in Baltimore’s meetup community with Baltimore Black Techies, and sees the bootcamp as an extension of efforts to get more people involved in the tech community. Passionate about education, Brooks began to stream introductory tech talks via Google Hangouts and Twitch. After joining Fearless’ business incubator, he is now launching a 12-week program.

“Tech is the great equalizer. I’ve been able to be fortunate to find my way in tech,” he said in a statement. “It’s been really enlightening to show people you can have an internet connection and a $50 Chromebook from Craigslist and you can learn and there are jobs. To be able to share that with people is amazing.”

MASTERMND is designed for people who are just starting out with programming. Some of the classes include Intro to Programming, The Go Playground, Operations Systems Concepts and Server Management. Subscribers to the bootcamp’s Twitch channel will also have access to exercises within Google Classroom, as well as a Slack channel for the bootcamp.
