Learning to code is still a privilege, but D.C.-based designer Alisha Ramos doesn’t think it should be. In an attempt to take a small but powerful step forward toward a more diverse tech sector, Ramos is collecting a list of organizations that work to promote diversity in tech.
The list, which is open-source and hosted on GitHub, currently features 12 organizations. The hope is that the list will grow and provide interested individuals with an easy entrée into volunteer opportunities. Got an org to add? Just open a pull request or send Ramos an email.
Ramos, who currently works as a designer at Nava PBC and designed the logo for recently launched women entrepreneurship effort BEACON, spoke about the importance of volunteering and other strategies to increase the accessibility of a career in tech during a lecture at CSSConf 2016.
