In today’s GIF-fueled ever-changing media landscape, understanding the power of visual storytelling is key to cutting through all the political noise getting an audience’s attention.

That’s why Meetup groups GeoPhilly and Hack/Hackers are teaming up to bring National Geographic’s senior graphics editor Brian Jacobs — a former Azavea designer, btw, who now lives in D.C. — for a chat on the intersection of maps and journalism. The free event is happening on Friday, Feb. 10, at Azavea’s Spring Garden HQ.

Jacobs was formerly a Knight-Mozilla fellow working with ProPublica on data visualization. In November 2016, he became senior graphics editor at National Geographics, following his work as creative developer in series like “Rewind the Red Planet,” “Follow the Elk’s Perilous Journey,” and “A Vanishing Aquifer.”
