The Terrapin Hackers won the fall 2013 season of Major League Hacking, beating out teams from Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Major League Hacking, as Technical.ly Baltimore reported at the time, is a partnership with some of the bigger student hackathons in the country, said organizer Mike Swift. It allows for teams of student-hackers from colleges across the U.S. to compete for points.
Now the University of Maryland, College Park, is hosting its first Major League Hacking-authorized hackathon, reports The Diamondback.

According to The Diamondback:
Event director Shariq Hashme said he expects anywhere from 750 to 1,250 participants from more than 100 universities, with more than 100 of those participants hailing from this university.
He said that even without extensive marketing, 300 hackers representing about 50 universities have registered so far.
