The famed Christina River Taxi is one of Wilmington’s true gems.
You can hop on to travel from Dravo Plaza by the Emerging Enterprise Center to one of its six stops, including the Riverfront Market, Tubman-Garrett Park and the Kalmar Nyckel Shipyard. You can sit back for a historic tour of the city’s main waterway or a sunset wine cruise.
The Wilmington Riverfront has had its hits and misses over the years, but the River Taxi, piloted by the ever-endearing Captain Lionel Hynson, was cool when the Riverfront wasn’t, and remains one of the best — if not the fanciest — boats on the Christina.
If you’re one of those people who can’t justify a 90-minute riverboat wine tour during a workweek — and happen to work in communications — the annual Summer Happy Hour Aboard the Christina River Taxi, hosted by Delaware’s Public Relations Society of America, adds networking to the mix. Multitaskers can have a glass of wine, enjoy the scenery and meet potential new business contacts. Not bad for a Wednesday night.
The cruise takes off from the Queen Dock at 5:30 p.m. on July 24, returning at 7 p.m. Tickets include wine and snacks. Boat capacity is 29, so seats are limited.
