This Week in Jobs: Fall from the coconut tree and check out these 22 career opportunities

Tell us what you really think.

What’s with all the talk of coconut trees?

As Vice President Kamala Harris solidified her support in the wake of Biden’s decision not to run, the “coconut tree” meme exploded. The clip of Harris recounting the phrase her mother used to say went viral, appearing all over the internet and in the mouth of every late-night comedian.

But the jokes fail to convey the larger message. The story is about understanding everything is connected. After recounting the line during a 2023 speech, Harris made that clear.

“You exist in the context of all in which you live and what came before you,” the VP said.

While you’re puzzling over a new opportunity or career change, consider how it plays into the larger context, whether that be within the company you’re applying to, the industry in which you work or your career trajectory overall.
