LA Times profiles Wilmington, capping off a wild week for Delaware

Any time Joe Biden runs for federal office, Delaware gets attention in the national media, for better or worse. Recently, the LA Times came to Wilmington to explore Biden’s hometown.

The new video shows stills of kids playing basketball in the park while a voiceover notes that Wilmington is 57% African American, while featuring interviews with people at Janssen’s Market in Greenville. (This is a legitimate contrast, but we couldn’t help but notice they only appear to have talked to people around Greenville, Trolley Square and Rockford Park.)

The three-minute video also features Gianni’s Pizza, Angelo’s and Market Street, and is mildly critical of the chummy “Delaware Way” (which Times reporter Melanie Mason expanded on in a Sunday article on Biden). Its biggest inaccuracy is probably saying that Wilmington in on the Delaware River — it is, of course, on the Christina River. (Correction: The Wilmington Riverfront, shown in the video, is on the Christina, not the Delaware River, but the city has three rivers — the Christina and the Brandywine, which lead to the Delaware River).
