University of Maryland BioPark

Meet University of Maryland BioPark

The University of Maryland, Baltimore BioPark offers a dynamic lab and office environment for life science companies — including global firms such as Pharmaron, Illumina, BD and Catalent — next-gen ventures, university spinouts, distinguished research organizations, cutting-edge clinical care and contemporary workforce training programs. An extension of the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), a thriving academic health center combining cutting-edge biomedical research and exceptional patient care, the BioPark fuels the translation of research and the commercialization of new drugs, diagnostics and devices. It fosters a strong culture of innovation and facilitates collaboration among its resident companies and the University: tenants are sourcing expertise from University faculty, joining forces on federal research grants as subcontractors and sponsoring millions in research projects. In addition to advancing research and discovery, the BioPark is dedicated to strengthening West Baltimore — stimulating economic activity, providing workforce development and training and supporting the communities surrounding the 14-acre campus.Over 20 years, the BioPark has generated more than $600 million in capital investment, developing seven buildings with over 600,000 square feet of leasable space. Nearly three dozen tenants employ more than 1,000 people in high-wage jobs in the BioPark. At full build-out, the BioPark will encompass more than 2 million square feet. A highly desirable location, the BioPark has remained fully leased and in high demand since the first building opened in 2005.4MLK is the newest lab and office development project. The eight story, 250,000-square-foot building, Phase I of a two phase project located at the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and West Baltimore Street, will provide critical wet lab space in downtown Baltimore for researchers and companies, flexible lab and office/support space for start-ups and Class A office space, along with areas for convening and a conference center.
