Ellen Weber is the new Executive Director of Temple University’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute.
Weber, executive director of angel group Robin Hood Ventures, replaces Jaine Lucas, who held the position for seven years. Lucas is looking for her next role, likely in leadership of a startup, nonprofit or social entrepreneurship organization, she told us in an email.
Temple’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute hosts events like Temple’s $125,000 Be Your Own Boss Bowl venture competition and works to push entrepreneurship throughout Temple’s 17 schools.
Weber will be responsible for, among other programs, Mid-Atlantic Diamond Ventures, a venture firm run out of Temple’s Fox School of Business.
Lucas “significantly enhanced the visibility of MADV and IEI in the community,” Weber wrote in an email.
It’ll be interesting to see how Weber, a familiar face in circles like Philly Startup Leaders and the Alliance of Women Entrepreneurs, will raise that visibility even more, amid other local universities’ high-profile entrepreneurship efforts.
As for Lucas, she’s also in talks with universities to teach “courses in strategy, innovation and entrepreneurship, and will be doing consulting and due diligence projects.”
She listed companies like socially-minded retailer United By Blue, food business HoneyGrow and Temple’s partnership with Blackstone Launchpad as Temple entrepreneurship success stories.
