Location: This opportunity is available in the Corning, NY, greater Wilmington, NC and Myrtle Beach, SC areas. Remote work options will also be considered in PA, NC, SC, GA, TX, and much of NYS.

Corning Credit Union is seeking a Database Administrator I to join our IT Infrastructure Team.

Role Summary: The Database Administrator provides oversight and assurance of the enterprise data processing environment’s performance, integrity, and system stability. This includes systems owned by CCU as well as third-party connections and cloud-based applications. The Database Administrator is involved with supporting CCU’s data processing environment, which includes implementing tactical solutions, on-going maintenance, strategic planning, and compliance driven from regulators, corporate leadership, and financial industry requirements.

Essential Job Duties

Ensures all database platforms remain stable and secure through regular validation of server configurations and monitoring.
Collaborates with the infrastructure team to perform testing for Business Continuity (BC).
Recommends new technologies to enhance stability, functionality, and security.
Performs data migrations and assists with platform installation and upgrades.
Ensures the database environment stays up to date with required service packs, hotfixes, and security updates.
Works cross-functionally with various operational teams to address performance or stability issues within the systems.
Proactively engages with team members and business stakeholders to provide recommendations and findings from root cause analyses.
Maintains data integrity, including limiting data duplication and preventing corruption of data sets.
Advises and implements system and data retention policies to optimize resources and application processing.
Assists in developing and maintaining the department’s strategic plan and action items.
Interacts with vendors, contractors, and third-party providers to ensure timely actions.
Shares knowledge and provides guidance to team members.
May lead small to moderate projects with minimal oversight.

Required Competencies

Expertise in managing SQL Server databases including installation, configuration, backup, and disaster recovery.
Proficient in writing and optimizing T-SQL queries to support crucial efficient database operations.
Experience in securing SQL Server instances, managing user access, and implementing security best practices.
Skilled at performance tuning including optimizing queries, indexing, and server configurations to ensure smooth database performance.
Possesses strong understanding of how SQL Server integrates with other systems and applications.
Self-starter that demonstrates initiative and ability to work independently with minimal direction and proven project leadership abilities.
Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze incidents, identify root causes, and implement solutions.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of new tools, features, and best practices.
Displays strong initiative and leadership abilities in order to manage projects effectively.
Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills and effectively relays information to all levels of the organization.
Manages multiple tasks and priorities and possesses excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Works closely with developers, system administrators, and business users to effectively collaborate and build strong relationships.
Effectively manages stress and priorities in a constantly changing environment; embraces the need to provide exceptional service and can easily shift focus to accommodate urgent business/member needs.

Education Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline preferred; commensurate work experience also considered.

Communication Skills Requirements

The ability to read and comprehend moderate to advanced instructions as well as various correspondence and memos.
The ability to write moderate to advanced correspondence within professional etiquette standards required
The ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to members, clients, and other employees of the Credit Union also required.

Compensation - The Data Base Administrator I pay range is $82,000 - $110,000 per year. Hiring rates are dependent on several factors, including years of related work experience, education, and geographic location. Corning Credit Union also offers an annual bonus plan as part of its comprehensive compensation package. Additionally, most roles have further levels providing added growth opportunities and earnings potential.
