Wanna build a website but have no clue where to start?
Zip Code Wilmington is bringing folks up to speed on HTML, CSS and JavaScript in a fast-paced introductory Coding Weekend this Saturday and Sunday.
The 12-hour event includes lectures, hands-on exercises and workshops with the aim of teaching the basics of original front-end coding. By the end of the class, participants will have built a small site. Software programmer Elise Wei, who has worked with Girl Develop It Philadelphia since 2012, will be the instructor.
“Students should gain a solid foundation in HTML and CSS, and begin to understand JavaScript and functional programming,” Wei tells Technical.ly. “And they will experience the satisfaction of producing a small sample site!”
Organizers say you don’t need prior knowledge of coding to attend, but you do need to be a fluent user of computers and the internet. You also need to bring a laptop with WiFi capability with Sublime Text 3 and Google Chrome installed.
Dominique Clarke, Community Engagement Manager at Zipcode Wilmington and event organizer planned this weekend because,
“People need to have discovery experiences,” said Zip Code’s Dominique Clarke. “Hopefully some of our students will love the excitement of building something from scratch and continue learning on their own, or apply to Zip Code for a full-time immersive learning experience.”
The Coding Weekend costs $100, and it goes from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
