Chew on this, #opendata peeps: WalletHub has calculated that Delaware is the least gun-dependent state while recent reports say gun permit applications are more than doubling in the First State.
First, the WalletHub report. They ranked all 50 states and Washington, D.C., based on:
Firearms industry. (Delaware had the lowest score.)

  • Number of firearms-industry jobs per 10,000 residents
  • Average wages and benefits in the firearms industry
  • Total firearms industry output per capita
  • Total taxes paid by the firearms industry per capita

Gun prevalence. (Delaware was No. 48, with New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island behind it.)

Gun politics. (Delaware came in last again.)

  • Gun control contributions to congressional members per 100,000 residents
  • Gun rights contributions to congressional members per 100,000 residents

The report also said Delaware is No. 50 in the fewest firearms industry jobs per capita, No. 49 in the lowest total firearms-industry output per capita, and it has the lowest gun ownership in the country, 12 times less than the No. 1 Alaska.
Yet, people are snapping up guns in Delaware, according to a story from Delaware State News.
Concealed-carry permits have risen by 56 percent from 2014 to 2015, the report said.
In December, Delaware received 348 concealed-carry applications, up from the 155 in December 2014. And overall, 2015 saw 2,614 permit applications while 2014 had almost a thousand less with 1,674.
Data from the General Accounting Office shows that Delaware had 5,000 active permits in 2011, or about 0.8 percent of the adult population. The state’s Department of Justice, Delaware State News noted, doesn’t have researchable data on permitted concealed deadly weapons.
