Extra, extra, read all about it: Forbes’ “America’s Top Colleges Ranking 2015” is hot off the digital press. Where does the University of Delaware, the state’s crown jewel, stand in the rankings?
For starters, the university was ranked 142nd out of 650 schools analyzed in the study. Out of every public university on that list, UD fell into place at No. 29. This news comes after last month’s issue of Money magazine, in which UD was ranked the 65th best out of 736 colleges and universities in the nation (the university was the 21st best public university on that list).
We have one area of concern, though: as impactful as the university’s Horn Program in Entrepreneurship has been for the state, churning out startups such as Carvertise and ProjectedU, the university is nowhere to be found on Forbes’ “Startup Schools: America’s Most Entrepreneurial Universities 2015” list (which includes 50 U.S. universities).
What does that mean for the state? More specifically, what does that mean for the startups we’re most proud of, that do well enough in Delaware but fail to make enough of a splash on a national level to beat out startups from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif.? That university, which has a Center for Entrepreneurship and a Global Center for Social Entrepreneurship, was ranked No. 50 on the “Startup Schools” list.
Also worth mentioning: Forbes ranked the University of Delaware No. 65 in research universities (we’ll keep an eye out for next year’s ranking once the STAR Campus is in full flight) and No. 66 overall in the Northeast.
Time to step up your game, Wilmington University.
