Learn about allyship and advocacy at UD’s upcoming Women’s Leadership Initiative webinars

The Women’s Leadership Initiative from University of Delaware’s Lerner College of Business and Economics is kicking off a five-part series designed to offer solutions during difficult times.

Called Allyship, Advocacy and Accompliceship, the series launches on Friday, Oct. 9, with Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times journalist Jodi Kantor discussing women’s rights. Kantor, who is also the author of “She Said” and “The Obamas,” will appear via Zoom from 9 to 10:30 a.m. EST.

Webinars in the series will be held every other Friday on Zoom and will include topics of male allyship, allyship with people of color, LGBTQ rights, and women as boardroom allies.

The rest of the schedule, with all events scheduled for 9 a.m.:

• Friday, Oct. 23 — Cultivating Male Allyship with the authors of the books “Good Guys” and “Athena Rising“: Dave Smith, associate professor at the Naval War College, and Brad Johnson, professor at the U.S. Naval Academy and faculty associate at Johns Hopkins University
• Friday, Nov. 6 — Building Allyship with People of Color with Lew Sherr, chief revenue officer of the US Tennis Association; Christine Larsen, independent member of the board of directors at CIBC; and Paula Glover, president and CEO of American Association of Blacks in Energy
• Friday, Nov. 20 — Advocating for LGBTQ Rights with Sarah McBride, candidate for Delaware State Senate; Stacie Rinker, D&I program manager at M&T Bank; and Devin Brymer, UD student and president of the Lavender Programming Board
• Friday, Dec. 4 — Women as Allies in the Board Room with Carter Franke, chair of the board of directors at Sallie Mae, and Doneene Damon, president and director of Richards, Layton and Finger, P.A.
