SummerCollab’s Tyler’s Camp is returning to this summer, and is looking to fill several seasonal positions for instructors.

Tyler’s Camp, a collaborative middle-school academy offering a range of activities including athletics, STEAM, literacy and social-emotional development, is geared toward kids entering fourth through eighth grade who have been locked out of pipeline-to-success schools, with the goal of closing the summer learning gap that disproportionately affects children in low-income families. The majority of the campers attend for free, after being recommended for a scholarship through schools and community centers.

Tyler’s Camp partners include STRIVE, Microsoft, Hagley Museum, The Delaware Nature Society, Longwood Gardens, Opera Delaware, Wilmington Ballet, Delaware Sports League.

The program offers innovative classes, including Explo, a nontraditional project-based learning program by Tyler’s Camp partner EXPLO Studios, a nonprofit based out of Norwood, Massachusetts. Explo makes the most of the no-homework summer period by focusing on students’ interests and passions they may not be able to explore during the school year.

Students and educators interested in becoming a seasonal Explo instructor for Tyler’s camp can apply for the position now. Expo instructors will be required to take a four-day training session in June and teach the curriculum Monday through Thursday during the summer session. A STEAM background is a plus.

Tyler’s Camp also needs Collab instructors of critical thinking, a STRIVE facilitator, a literacy instructor, as well as camp counselors. Volunteer opportunities are also available for high school students. You can apply on the SummerCollab website.
