It’s no secret that women are the fastest growing group of entrepreneurs in America. From Silicon Valley to New York to Mississippi, women are starting businesses and raising millions of dollars to solve the world’s most complex problems.
Now their stories are being told.
On Jan. 25, Hera Hub will host a screening of the documentary film She Started It, which follows five women entrepreneurs over the course of two years as they pitch venture capitalists and build out their teams, all the while experiencing success and failure.
The five women who are featured are:
- Thuy Truong, Green Gar
- Stacey Ferreira, MySocialCloud
- Sheena Allen, Sheena Allen Apps
- Brienne Ghafourifar, Entefy
- Agathe Monlinar, Lemon Curve
In addition to the founders’ stories, the film also highlights startling data about the lack of women founders in tech, how much money (and the lack thereof) they are receiving in funding and the number of leadership positions they currently hold.
Now more than ever, women of all ages are being inspired to start businesses that are solving critical problems. “I think for young girls in particular the opportunity is phenomenal,” Illuminate Ventures founder Cindy Padnos says in the film’s trailer. “Being an entrepreneur is one of the most exciting things in the world — the opportunity to take your vision and make it a reality.”
After the film screening, a panel discussion will be led by four D.C. founders who will also their stories about how they started companies, and the lessons they’ve learned in the process. (We’ve profiled each of them, so you can also read about some of those lessons in the Technical.ly stories below.) Hear from:
