Last weekend, SEED SPOT brought its 2-Day Launch Camp to George Washington University, offering the social impact–focused program to more than 30 undergraduate, graduate, faculty, and alumni entrepreneurs in the GW community.

“GW students want to create and develop innovative ways to impact society and bring about new ideas. SEED SPOT was the obvious partner to make that happen. Over the course of one weekend, GW students and alumni took on global challenges and developed innovative solutions that spanned healthcare, food products, education, and poverty.” Scott Stein, GW’s associate director of Student Entrepreneurship Programs said in a statement. “The Launch Camp was a transformative and unique learning experience.”

Several awards were given out to the entrepreneurs who pitched at the concluding Demo Day:

  • Impact Award: Tour Hail, founded by Shirin Jafari to create an on-demand community between tourists and locals.
  • Growth Award: Smart Nibs, founded by Nadja Naimon to help connect individuals with healthy and delicious treats to eat without feeling guilt.
  • Viable Business Award: Deliver Smart, cofounded by Will Cooper and Richard Cantu to help solve the problem of packages delivered by mail being lost or stolen.
  • Social Innovation Award: Ease of Mind, co-founded by Dhrumil Shah and Sara Weisman to combat the environmental damages of the clothing industry by developing a new method for clothing production and distribution.

SEED SPOT and GW are expecting these entrepreneurs to leverage what they learned to compete in GW’s New Venture Competition in 2019, a business plan competition that helps GW entrepreneurs develop, test, and launch their own startup ventures, the press release states.
