Twelve entrepreneurs — and the causes they uphold — were honored Tuesday night during the 2016 edition of the Rad Awards, started by Leah Kauffman and her site, Rad Girls.
ROAR for Good founder and local Girl Develop It organizer Yasmine Mustafa was named Innovator of the Year. Her startup, which set out to create wearable technology to keep women safe from sexual assault, raised $250,000 last October. ROAR’s first product, Athena, is now available for preorder.
The work of Girl Develop It Executive Director Corinne Warnshuis was also highlighted with the Connector of the Year award. Comcast Director of Entrepreneurial Engagement Danielle Cohn won the Rad Girl of the Year award.
Marley Dias, 11, took home the Educator of the Year award for creating the hashtag #1000blackgirlbooks, which sought to identify kid-oriented literature featuring women of color.
