These 10 tech tools are most sought after by nonprofits: Blue Ridge Foundation

Blue Ridge Foundation's experiment in creating digital products for nonprofits yields a list of web-based needs for service organizations. Here are the top 10.

From the Blue Ridge Foundation Twitter page.

The Blue Ridge Foundation hasn’t posted the awardees for its Digital Prototyping Opportunity yet on its website, but it has released a list of the most requested platforms for new apps by nonprofits.

They listed 10, which can be found in full here but in short are as follows:

  1. Learning materials platform
  2. Online member communities
  3. Data visualization tools
  4. SMS reminders
  5. Expert FAQs
  6. Client management portal
  7. Online matchmaking tools
  8. Gamification tools
  9. Live chat windows
  10. Case management streamlining

More than 200 organizations expressed interest in working with the Foundation and its hired experts to explore how digital creations might advance organizational missions. The staff at the Foundation appears set to start helping nonprofits find resources to meet many of these needs, several of which do seem like they would be met by existing tools online, but there may be privacy and access issues that organizations will also need to address before they can be sure that open systems are right for their work.
