More than 120 high school scholars from around the country will be at Morgan State University for a nine-day stay later this month to take part in a program focused on STEAM careers.
It’s the first edition of the National Career Academy program from INROADS, an organization which prepares and places underserved youth for internships and corporate jobs.
The student participate in INROADS College Links, a college and career readiness program with locations in Atlanta, Chicago, Cincinnati and D.C.  At the event, they’ll get experience on a college campus, as well as a sampling of work life.
“The workshops we’ve selected for this year’s National Career Academy will help our scholars consider their career interests and teach them what it takes to be successful in life after high school,” Adriana M. Spikes-Freeman, National Program Director for INROADS College Links, said in a statement. “Holding the conference at Morgan State University is such a great opportunity for students to have an authentic college campus experience, especially at an HBCU.”
During the event, students will participate in a three-day coding and pitch competition titled Hack<It>Upstart, working on tracks in cybersecurity, entrepreneurship and electrical engineering. Other activities include a fashion show featuring professional work attire, and a volunteer day with Project Clean Stream. They’ll also seek to build resumes and interviewing skills, as well as visit local businesses like McCormick, Stanley Black & Decker and Johns Hopkins Hospital.
