Johns Hopkins students looking to galvanize entrepreneurship are providing a full afternoon of events to meet startups and learn from folks with experience building companies.
On Sunday, April 8, TCO Labs is organizing Hatch 2018. Held at Mudd Hall on the Johns Hopkins Homewood campus, it’s the second edition of the conference.
As we’ve reported, TCO Labs is a nonprofit run by Johns Hopkins undergrads. It aims to strengthen the entrepreneurial community on campus, as well as provide a link to the wider Baltimore startup community. That mission is reflected in the event, which is free and open to the public.

It features a chance to learn from alums building companies:
- Max Dworin, Head of Wine and Spirits and Senior Manager of Business Development at Boxed, an online wholesale retailer offering delivery of bulk items. He’ll give a keynote.
- Nick Gilson, founder and CEO of Gilson Snowboard and Ski Co., will give a workshop on product development.
The day will also feature a chance to meet startups that are currently springing up on campus, with a Startup Alley featuring 20 startups and demo day featuring companies from TCO Labs’ Hatchery incubator program.
“It’s a great way for people to see the whole range of the startup continuum, and meet people that are at every stage of the process,” said TCO Labs’ Pava LaPere.
That wide range is on view at Johns Hopkins events throughout the month of April. With the confluence of six events, it’s been deemed Innovation Month.
One of the highlights includes an all-day Healthcare Design Competition hosted by the Center for Bioengineering Innovation and Design on April 15. On April 27, the JHU Business Plan Competition will be held all day, and DREAMS Undergraduate Research Day is held in the afternoon.
