Here’s where you’ll find Philadelphia FIGHT’s chief strategy officer at Philly Tech Week

Lorelei Shingledecker's itinerary includes a well-rounded combination of creative, civic and dev events.

Pretty cool hackathon venue, tbh. (The Philadelphia Pennsylvania Museum of Art by Olivier Le Queinec via Shutterstock)
This is a guest post by Lorelei Shingledecker, the chief strategy officer at Philadelphia FIGHT.

Name: Lorelei Narvaja Shingledecker
Neighborhood: Fishtown/East Kensington
Job: Chief Strategy Officer at Philadelphia FIGHT (and also a photographer)
Side Project: Binge-watching The Fast and the Furious films leading up to the final installment, coming out this month in theaters everywhere!
Here’s my #PTW15 game plan:

1. Fuel Up for Philly Tech Week

This branch of La Colombe recently opened in my neighborhood. Philly Tech Week’s Fuel Up is a great opportunity to finally check it out and meet my fellow tech allies! (Friday, April 17, 8-10 a.m.)

2. Women of Philly, Comfortable High Heels Are Now a Reality!

Once I get caffeinated at the PTW Fuel Up, I’ll be heading over (and will be first in line) for a fitting and information session by True Gault, a fashion tech company that applies 3D measuring technology to make comfortable heels. I’m in heels a lot for dancing, important meetings or meeting first-time photography clients. But I have yet to find the shoe that fits (and doesn’t kill me). (Friday, April 17, 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m.)

3. Philadelphia Museum of Art Tech Tour

After shoe-shopping and knowledge sharing with True Gault, I’ll swing by the tech tour at the PMA, one of my favorite art institutions and a Philly crown jewel. I’m looking forward to this walking tour to gain more inspiration and ideas for my photography. (Friday, April 17, 5:30-7 p.m.)

4. City Council Candidate Lunch on Tech

I couldn’t think of a better way to stay engaged on a civic level than attending this lunch. I’ll take advantage of the opportunity to ask City Council candidates about their perspectives on entrepreneurship, innovation and technology in Philadelphia, especially as it relates to public health disparities. Hope to see you there! (Monday, April 20, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.)

5. Girl Develop It Philly Rise & Shine

There are some incredible individuals I know who are involved in the Girl Develop It Philly community. I look forward to hanging out with participants over coffee. Go to this event if you want to learn more about Girl Develop It’s work providing affordable programs and a supportive learning environment for women interested in learning web and software development. (Tuesday, April 21, 7-9 a.m.)

6. Node.js meetup, Philly Tech Week Edition

Unfortunately I won’t be able to attend this event because of a prior commitment, but I want to urge folks to check out the Node.js meetup at Zivtech, a terrific web development company cofounded by my longtime friend Alex Urevick-Ackelsberg. Pizza, beer and great conversation at this event! (Thursday, April 16, 6:30-9 p.m.)

7. A Web Designer’s Guide to the Real World

Again, I won’t be able to attend this because of the concurrent PMA event, but if you’re a starting web designer, check out what the Tactile Group has to offer. They have a solid staff and will serve as your “web designer spirit animal” as you navigate the first formative years of your career as a web design professional. (Friday, April 17, 5-7 p.m.)

8. Philly KEYSPOT: Digital Divide Hacks for the Tech Industry

Last but not least, this event is the heart of why I’ve had a long-standing commitment to community technology and digital inclusion efforts, specifically my work at Philadelphia FIGHT and until recently, co-chairing the Technology Learning Collaborative. To me, the allure and excitement of innovation is meaningless unless it includes the needs of our city’s most vulnerable communities. This event will be an energizing collaboration among community members, service providers, and experts in the tech industry on how to improve lives through technology. (Thursday, April 23, 5:30-7:30 p.m.)
