General Assembly’s second LGBTQA happy hour is scheduled for Sept. 30.
The tech education org’s event welcomes LGBT tech folks and allies.

“The goal is to build a huge community and show that GA campuses are accepting of everything,” said organizer Shanaz Chowdhery. “Our ultimate goal is always to continue to build our community.”
Chowdhery, GA’s regional director who described herself as a “hardcore ally” to the LGBT community, was inspired by other GA campuses around the country. Atlanta had a similar event recently, she said.
The first D.C. LGBTQA happy hour, held earlier this month, drew 75 people to the downtown building GA shares with 1776.
When it comes to LGBTQ-focused tech events in the District, Lesbians Who Tech hosts sporadic happy hours. The group recently hosted an event with Dev Bootcamp to kick off D.C. Pride. (Also, just last week, a handful of D.C. technologists headed to the White House for its annual LGBTQ Tech and Innovation Summit.) But other than that, GA would be filling a void in the scene if it continues to host these meetups. It’s a savvy business move — one way to get prospective students through the doors.
