The feminine hygiene social entrepreneur out of UD’s Horn Program just hit it big

Lindsay Yeager is going to Singapore in November for a chance to win $25,000 from a United Nations initiative.

After garnering the highest amount of crowdfunding supporters, social entrepreneur Lindsay Yeager — a product of the University of Delaware Horn Program in Entrepreneurship — and the Dare Women’s Foundation in Tanzania have been selected for Project Inspire’s People’s Choice Award, a competition through the UN Women Singapore Committee.
Yeager’s project, Empowerment Through Feminine Hygiene, employs local Tanzanian women to sew reusable menstrual pads for women who do not have access to hygiene products.
It’s in the top 10 out of 430 projects that applied for the competition across the globe, which means Yeager will be heading to Singapore to pitch her business model at the grand finals on Nov. 13. There, she’ll receive mentorship and a chance to win $25,000 for her business.
Those funds would go towards providing seamstresses and feminine hygiene ambassadors with the necessary materials to produce and sell approximately 15,600 pads by February 2016.
