Teens will have the chance to flex their web development skills for a cause and win prizes in the Digital Harbor Foundation’s fifth WebSlam later this week.
The two-day event, open to 7th- through 12th-grade students, will be held Dec. 5 and 6 at the foundation’s tech center in Federal Hill. Registration is available online or by calling 443-681-9384.
“This is our fifth WebSlam, and we are excited to repeat the tremendous outcomes we’ve seen already — for students, parents, non-profits and community members,” Executive Director Andrew Coy said in a release. “Students are hungry for the opportunity to solve real-world problems for real clients in a hands-on hackathon experience. WebSlam is, essentially, an intensive and engaging Career Day for youth wanting to test drive a future in web development.”
Using real-world nonprofit scenarios, students work in teams to build websites at the hackathon-style event.
In 2013, Digital Harbor took the WebSlam concept to Philadelphia.
