Always been curious about the intersection of fintech and consumer protection laws? You’re in luck — this fall the Federal Trade Commission is hosting a series of forums on fintech. The second such forum, coming on the afternoon of Oct. 26, is on crowdfunding and peer-to-peer payments.

The forum will consist of two panel discussions — one on peer-to-peer payment systems and apps like Venmo, and the other on crowdfunding as a concept and practice (think Kickstarter). According to organizers “both panels will discuss the important trends in these industries, as well as their benefits and potential risks for consumers.” Panelists in each discussion bring together representatives from private industry alongside government representatives and consumer interest groups.
The free event will be held at the Constitution Center in Penn Quarter, so stop by if you’re in the area. Otherwise, the whole thing will be webcast to the FTC website. Find more info on the event here.
The first event in the FTC fintech forum series was held in June, and covered marketplace lending.
