The Silver Spring tech scene is coming into its own. In June, it welcomed a 3D printer-equipped renovated library. And now, a new makerspace is coming to town.
The Catylator Makerspace will open just in time for the city’s Maker Faire in mid-September.
It will be lodged in a 3,000-square-foot space in the World Building at 8121 Georgia Ave.
The space will be geared towards learning, with two classrooms and one open workshop. It will offer classes and supervised workshops for kids ages 12-18.
“Our central location is easy and safe for teens and adult members to access, which wouldn’t have been possible in an industrial area,” said Catylator founder Stephen Morris in a press release Monday. “Our location will help us build robust collaborative initiatives with maker-oriented organizations in our area.”
