We recently reported that some kind of fiber service was coming to Sunset Park with support from the de Blasio administration. It’s true: a new, symmetrical 1GB-per-second commercial-grade service is coming to Industry City. We haven’t confirmed that this is the provider that Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen referred to when we spoke with her about fiber in the area, but it would be hard to imagine that there’d be two new lines in the same neighborhood.
The service comes at a much heavier price tag than Google’s commercial service in Kansas City ($500 versus $100 per month), however, Sunset Park’s broadband may also have a much better service level agreement.
The story broke in Crain’s:

Brooklyn Fiber, which got its start wiring small businesses on its home turf in Red Hook, has been aiming to bring gigabit service to its customers ever since it launched, said CEO Eric Veksler, who founded the company with his brother Rob Veksler. They are offering businesses a symmetrical connection—meaning 1 gigabit speeds for both uploads and downloads—and are promising no long-term contracts, hidden fees or “bill creep.”

We first covered Brooklyn Fiber when we explored broadband options in Brooklyn in 2013. We’ll be following up for more on this new service.
Cleveland plans to open a 100GB-per-second commercial service through its downtown and health corridor this summer.
