DC Tech Meetup’s webpage has been hacked.

Now the prominent meetup group’s main digital source of connection to the community has been taken down. The group shared the news in a tweet, along with disappointment toward Meetup for deleting its site after individuals added themselves as organizers.

Hey @Meetup. Our page got hacked and instead of removing the individuals who added themselves as organizers you took the entire group down. We worked hard to build our community to over 40 thousand members, your response is unacceptable. #DCtech

Meetup is a service that connects organizations via online groups to coordinate in-person events. The DC Tech Meetup group said it had over 40,000 members before the site was deleted.

This meetup has clearly been a pivotal and vital component to the #dctech community over the years. Since 2011, DC Tech Meetup has been convening technologists, entrepreneurs, investors and the broader innovation community regularly to learn and share, Technical.ly DC previously reported. Each meetup usually has a theme with demos from local companies and an open mic portion followed by a networking happy hour. In 2012, DC Tech Meetup was recognized by Inc. Magazine for having more than 1,100 people RSVP and 700 people show up to a meetup.

After years of building a streamline of meaningful events through the online group, here’s what the site looks like now:

DC Tech Meetup organizers didn’t give an official statement, but the group’s leadership team is working diligently to try to resolve the issue. We will update this article as more details come in.
