4 tech talks at TEDxPhiladelphia (and how to win tickets to see them)

This year's event takes place Thursday, June 11.

TEDxPhiladelphia is back again and like usual, it’s sold out. But we can get you in.
Sign up for the Technical.ly Philly newsletter and add the code tedxphilly to the “Organization” field to enter to win a pair of tickets to the event. (Already signed up for the Technical.ly Philly newsletter? Not a problem. You can also enter by signing up for our Technical.ly National newsletter, using the same code.) We’ll notify our winner May 29.
Below, find a list of the four technologists who you can catch at the event, which is themed “And Justice for All.” We pulled text from the press release.

  • Jeffrey Rosen says modern surveillance is threatening democracy’s promise of equal justice under the law. He’ll explore how three technologies — DNA surveillance, brain scans, and targeted advertising — are encroaching on our right to privacy. Jeffrey is CEO of the National Constitution Center, a museum and civic education headquarters dedicated to non-partisan constitutional education and debate.
  • Michelle Johnson will explore the accessibility and affordability of rehabilitation robots internationally. Progress in this field dramatically impacts patient recovery and the restoration of human dignity. Michelle is the director of the Rehabilitation Robotics Lab at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where she specializes in rehabilitation robotics for stroke victims.
  • Brigitte Daniel believes we are at risk of widening the digital divide with the creation of a new “Underserved citizen” — one that lacks access to quality internet services, adequate connectivity, and the devices and applications necessary for advancement in the 21st century. She argues digital equality and universal broadband access is a civil rights issue. Brigitte is the executive vice president of Wilco Electronics Systems, Inc., one of the last remaining African-American-owned cable operators in the nation.
  • Yasmine Mustafa knows first-hand how where you are born can dictate your life opportunities. She’ll share ideas for reducing gender inequality through her own personal narrative of cheating the “birth lottery” and becoming an American citizen. Yasmine is the founder of ROAR for Good, a social impact initiative aimed at utilizing technology and educational programs to end violence against women.
