Aubrey Plaza, Ursuline Academy grad and alum of the Wilmington Drama League, has done everything from voice work on The Legend of Korra to movies like Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates to playing Aaron Burr in Drunk History’s Alexander Hamilton episode. But she’s best known as the inimitable April Ludgate from Parks and Recreation.
Five years ago, Plaza arranged for her then-new (and honestly awesome) movie, Safety Not Guaranteed, to have a premiere in Wilmington, complete with red carpet, as a fundraiser for her old stomping grounds, the Drama League. I covered it for DE Arts Info. It was a big deal. It was at the height of Parks and Rec, and it was rare thing to have a famous local (who’s not Elena Delle Donne) come home and give to the community like that. You might spot Ryan Phillippe at a farm stand or something, but Aubrey… Aubrey comes out.
Now with a buzzy new flick Ingrid Goes West, Plaza is back again, along with some of the Wilmington Drama League’s other successful alums, including John “Johnny” Gallagher, Jr. who played Jim Harper on HBO’s The Newsroom, Rory Donovan of Finding Neverland on Broadway and Carly Ciarrocchi, star of Universal Kids’ popular Sprout House.

You can meet all three (and more) at WDL’s Homecoming Block Party on Sept. 30, with proceeds supporting the Drama League’s work. The event kicks off at 3 p.m. at 10 W. Lea Blvd.
