Baltimore City Public Schools (regionally referred to as the “City Schools”, although officially classified as the Baltimore City Public School system) is a citywide, local, public school district in the state of Maryland, United States, that serves the youth for the City of Baltimore (in distinction to the public school system (district) for the surrounding suburban County of Baltimore, known as the Baltimore County Public Schools). Traditionally however, the Baltimore City system has usually never referred to itself as a “district”, as the operation of the schools was synonymous with the City of Baltimore. As of 2013, it is currently the fourth largest school system in Maryland that maintains 204 schools with an active enrollment of more than 84,000 students. SOURCE
