Brennan Stark and Steve Burns have spent the last two years studying natural building, establishing partnerships, raising funds and interning with the Natural Cottage Project. On Saturday, March 31, the first house of their nonprofit natural home startup Y Innovations will officially break ground.
Not bad for a project started by a couple of 16 year olds.
The Archmere grads and current University of Delaware freshmen were inspired by Elon Musk when they ambitiously decided in 2016 to design a living space that was as eco-friendly, naturally efficient and affordable — and they wanted to build them for people who otherwise can’t afford to buy their own home. With the help of Family Promise, the 660-square-foot natural house they’re building at 2903 N. Jefferson St. will become the home of a family struggling with housing.
For the groundbreaking, they’re inviting the whole community to come out between 1 and 4 p.m. on the 31st for a block party at the site, with free food and soft drinks, giveaways and a ceremonial first dig. For directions and to RSVP, click here.
