Ponder the past, present and future of economic development

When major corporations leave the city, what responsibility does the city’s government have in fostering economic development?

It’s a question that has been very real for Wilmington over the years, from the banking exodus to the DowDuPont merger, and it’s one that the Wilmington History Society is going to tackle with a discussion on May 17 from 6–8 p.m. at Chelsea Tavern Basement Bar.

“The Evolving Role of City Government in Promoting Economic Development” will include a talk by Delaware historian and Downtown Visions board member Kevin McGonegal, who will examine how the city’s economy has changed over the years, and how city government is trying to adapt.

The talk, which kicks off after a 30-minute happy hour, will be followed by an open group discussion.
