Watch Delaware officials take on the #plankchallenge

It all started with a challenge from Laurel Elementary School.

Laurel Elementary School in Sussex County decided to take on the 30-day plank challenge — a core fitness challenge that involves holding oneself in a vertical position known as the plank (not to be confused with the early ’10s social media fad planking) — for March, and, on day one, challenged Gov. John Carney to do the same.

The governor accepted, with a video posted on Twitter:

But it didn’t end there. The challenge spread quickly, with planking filling the halls of the Delaware Health and Social Services, Department of State and the Department of Technology and Information.

The plank challenge only takes a few minutes a day, starting with 50 seconds of holding the pose on day one, and gradually building up to about four minutes (or more) by day 30, as your core strengthens.
