What can technologists, innovators, public servants and community leaders alike do to better understand (or even solve) the social problems that plague their community?
One solution: take advantage of the resources made available to them — particularly, open data. Civic hacking is one way citizens and their governments can use tech to further understand each other, innovate together and engage with one another.
Thursday’s monthly Delaware Tech Meetup, held at 1313 Innovation at 6:00 p.m., will be all about civic hacking. What datasets does Delaware’s government make available to its citizens? In what ways can we think about using that information to create useful tools — not for ourselves, but for our community?
The meetup will feature Dawn McDougall, a co-organizer with Philadelphia civic hacking community Code for Philly. McDougall will be talking to the group about how Code for Philly is building a network of civic leaders, organizations and startups to push for a better government and a community of informed citizens.
