TEDxWilmingtonSalon returns on Thursday, Nov. 18, for an event at Theatre N with talks all about the concept of placemaking.
“Placemaking means creating places and focuses on transforming public spaces to strengthen the connections between people and these places,” TEDxWilmington licensee Dr. Dan Young said. “Placemaking is a process centered on people and their needs, aspirations, desires and visions, which relies strongly on community participation.”
Five speakers will participate in the event:
- Brian DiSabatino, CEO of EDiS, on placemaking to repair cities
- Megan McGlinchey, executive director for Riverfront Development Corporation, on the concepts being used at the Riverfront to convene people
- Alex Yoh, senior director of marketing and communications for the Delaware Blue Coats, on the impact of sports in building community
- Logan Herring, CEO of REACH Riverside, on “the concept of a rising tide lifting all boats … if you have a boat”
- Wendy Stevens, guerrilla marketing specialist, on how cities brand themselves
In addition to the individual talks, there will also be a panel discussion with all the speakers. Tickets are required for the event, which will run from 6 to 8 p.m. on the 18th.
Get tixThere will be two more local TEDx events in at Theatre N in 2021: TEDxWilmingtonWomen on Thursday, Dec. 2 and TEDxWilmingtonSalon on Kids on Thursday, Dec. 16. A third, full-day event is scheduled for Saturday, April 30, featuring 23 speakers from more than 10 states and countries.
