Tech companies commit to hiring 90,000 veterans, FLOTUS announces

Michelle Obama announced Thursday that several technology companies had committed to hire and train 90,000 military veterans and spouses.
Speaking at Manassas, Va.-based semicondutor producer Micron Technology, the First Lady said hiring veterans “wasn’t simply the patriotic thing to do but was the right thing to do for their bottom line,” according to Inside Nova. Microsoft Corp., Cisco, Oracle and Micron all promised to pitch in.
The Northern Virginia Technology Council Veterans Employment Initiative also announced the VEI Scholars program, a partnership with seven colleges and universities to place veterans in educational training programs.
Northern Virginia is offering a growing number of resources to veteran entrepreneurs. Last November, a startup incubator for veterans called The Bunker launched in Alexandria. In December, veteran Geoff Orazem launched the Eastern Foundry, a Crystal City incubator for small government contractors.
