January is National Mentoring Month. To celebrate, One Village Alliance’s annual Raising Kings Week — which is all about connecting service with social justice — will kick off on Jan. 18 with the Martin Luther King Day of Service.

This year, its an outdoor event hosted by the Delaware Art Museum and The Big Green Project of Delaware. The day will feature 45-minute art projects outside of the One Village Alliance Freedom Center and grounds clean-up and gardening projects, as well as live music from 10 to 11 a.m.

The majority of the weeklong event, honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a focus on positive male role models and fathers, will be virtual, with its free events livestreaming globally.

Events include:

  • Kings in the Kitchen: Health Convo (Originally Wednesday, Jan. 20, rescheduled for Saturday, January 23) — Black and Brown health industry professionals will livestream from Eat Clean in Wilmington, preparing a healthy dish and interacting virtually with attendees via a virtual discussion.
  • Louis L. Redding Street Law Session (Thursday, Jan. 21) — This interactive, virtual seminar will feature several young attorneys, students and community leaders and focus on understanding the legal system and eliminating negative interactions with the criminal justice system.
  • “The Fatherhood Fight”: Film & Panel (Friday, Jan. 22) — Check out this virtual film screening and discussion featuring a fatherhood documentary starring CJ Bell and his son.
  • The 9th Annual Raising Kings Conference (Saturday, Jan. 23) — The event closing out this year’s Raising Kings Week connects high-needs youth with positive male mentors.
