Philly is full of makers: confectioners, fashion designers, software developers and more. A new volunteer effort aims to promote and celebrate all that activity in the city.
Inspired by SFMade, a similar effort in San Francisco, PHL Made is a branding and marketing initiative to promote local businesses. While SFMade focuses on artisans, PHL Made will support makers from all industries, including technology, fashion, food and literature. The team envisions a PHL Made magazine, pop-up shops and tours.
Old City software firm Artisan is an early supporter of the cause, spearheaded by the Convention & Visitors Bureau marketing head Danielle Cohn. The city has committed $25,000 to the effort and the team will launch a Kickstarter campaign in the fall.
