The National Day of Civic Hacking arrives Saturday, August 11, as events throughout the country look to provide a chance to put tech skills to use for the greater good.
Locally, Code for Baltimore is taking action with a hack day to prototype projects that are designed to help on the local level. The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Spark Baltimore.
Code for Baltimore, the local brigade affiliated with civic tech organizer Code for America, meets regularly to work on projects and network. For Saturday’s event, the group is looking to bring together technologists, local government representatives and community organizations to work on projects.
According to Code for Baltimore Community Manager Angelina Millare, the four projects are as follows:

  • Hospital Notifications: a system to help automate Baltimore’s hospital emergency status workflow
  • Data Sculptures: works of art to be displayed around the city showing the beauty of positive behavior data.
  • Sync the City, (Sincronicity): A mobile app helping communities direct and locate assistance resources.
  • Idea Hub: A web-based platform for the community and members to share project ideas and information.

It’s a chance to connect with the community. Along with coding skills, the project teams are seeking input from designers, copywriters and people from the community who are knowledgable about the issues they’re looking to address. RSVP below.
