NYU President Andrew Hamilton will unveil tomorrow the university’s plan to invest more than half a billion dollars into buildings and programs at NYU Tandon in Downtown Brooklyn over the next decade.

Hamilton will be speaking Thursday morning at a breakfast panel at the Association for a Better New York, along with Columbia President Lee Bollinger and other university presidents. The panel will be hosted by 1776NY’s own Rachel Haot.

According to the university, the investment will “encompasses a major renovation and expansion for its Tandon School of Engineering, focusing on key departments within Rogers Hall, the school’s main academic building,” as well as the addition of 500,000 square feet with the renovation of 370 Jay St., formerly the headquarters of the Metropolitan Transit Authority.

Renovations at Rogers Hall will improve the departments of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Civil and Urban Engineering, as well as Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

370 Jay will house the Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP). The additional space at the university will also benefit programs like NYU’s Future Labs, which have incubated dozens of promising Brooklyn startups.

The university also said it will add 40 faculty and researchers as well as an additional 1,100 students to the Downtown Brooklyn community.
