Do you know (or are you) a Delaware woman who deserves to be inducted into the Hall of Fame of Delaware Women? Nominations for the honor are open now through April 21.

Launched in 1981, the Hall of Fame of Delaware Women is the oldest annual celebration to recognize the achievements of outstanding Delaware women and their contributions to communities across the state.

“Every year I am blown away by the caliber of the honorees for the Hall of Fame of Delaware Women,” said Kay Keenan, chair of the Hall of Fame Committee, in a press statement. “We receive nominations for women from different backgrounds — artists, athletes, community organizers, educators, public servants, and more — who make an impact in communities across the state.”

Nominees can be contemporary women — 2019 inductees include Latin American Community Center President and CEO Maria Matos and Superior Court Judge Jan Jurden — or outstanding women from the past who deserve recognition — such as the late Blanche Williams Stubbs, a leader of the Wilmington NAACP in the 1910s-1940s and former Howard School teacher, also inducted in 2019.

The 2020 inductees will be recognized at the Hall of Fame of Delaware Women Induction Ceremony on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Dover Downs Hotel and Casino.

Nominees must have lived at least 10 years in Delaware during their lifetime, and they or a rep (for posthumous noms) must be able to attend the event. Apps are open online.
