Since the establishment of the City of Newark’s information technology team in 2013, Joshua Brechbuehl had been its manager, implementing technology efforts in the hometown of the University of Delaware. When he announced he would be moving on in November, the city found itself with a pair of big shoes to fill.

After putting out a call for a highly experienced successor, the city has announced its new hire: James McCormick, who worked previously as the CIO of Caroline County, Md., for 20 years. Some of his Caroline County achievements include the creation of the the first county-owned fiber network in the State of Maryland and the mid-Atlantic region’s first county-owned hybrid infrastructure to connect all schools, county and state agencies.

“I am honored by the opportunity to join the City of Newark and build on the progress achieved through the efforts of its IT team,” McCormick said in a press statement. “I believe my experience leading a technical organization in a local government environment will serve the City, its staff and its customers well; and I look forward to getting started.”

McCormick starts on Monday, Jan. 8.
