Locals launch petition to improve parking in Wilmington

“Wilmington isn't currently a busy-enough city to be such a terrible place to park,” said one supporter.

Anyone who has ever been to Wilmington knows that parking is no easy task.
Local leaders and activists are turning to an online petition to help change that.
Social media strategist Ken Grant has created a Change.org petition: “Create more parking opportunities in Downtown Wilmington.”
“Last month, Wilmington’s Young Professionals task force identified parking as one of the top issues in Wilmington’s central business district,” the petition reads. “Parking is the foundation of a thriving live, work, play environment and an essential part of the success of any city.”
The petition says that easier parking will lead to more retail success, restaurant activity, more employers looking to relocate downtown, tourism and additional residents.
As of press time, 63 supporters had signed the petition. The goal is to reach 100 signatures.
“I’m signing because I want to see downtown Wilmington grow to its full potential, and in order for that to happen, we need more parking,” writes Claymont resident Jody Milburn.
Members of the local tech community are also chiming in about the need for more accessible parking.
“Wilmington isn’t currently a busy-enough city to be such a terrible place to park,” said The Kitchen’s Zach Phillips.
