International Women’s Day is March 8: Here’s a roundup of what’s going on

All across the globe, women will gather for discussions, marches and celebrations of International Women’s Day on March 8.

Here’s what’s happening in Delaware:

• International Women’s Day Networking Fair at the University of Delaware. The Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) at Lerner College has its official launch with keynote address by Valerie Biden Owens, a panel of women leaders, a networking fair and luncheon, and ends with a celebration march on Main Street and through campus.
• The inauguration of Wilmington University president Dr. LaVerne T. Harmon, the first African-American woman to be named president of a university or college in the state of Delaware will happen at an invite-only event at the Chase Center.
• University & Whist Club’s Second Annual International Women’s Day Luncheon honoring Delaware Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long, 805 N. Broom St., Wilmington. The $50 ticket includes a three-course luncheon, guest speakers and networking.
• International Women’s Day Sisterhood Circle, a special worldwide circle and meditation event. Thousands of women in 80+ countries will gather in Sister Circles to heal and empower. The event is open to anyone identifying as female. At the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Newark.
• No A-POLE-ogies celebration, a BYOB party from Delaware Pole Fitness at Elevations Dance Studio, 470 Century Blvd. Tickets cost $15.
• 10,000 Villages is offering 25 percent off Women’s Bean Project items from March 8–11. Women’s Bean Project strives to break the cycle of chronic unemployment and poverty by helping women discover their talents and develop skills by offering job readiness training opportunities. Products include soup, baking and salsa mixes, jewelry and gift baskets. Check out the location at 4021 Kennett Pike.
• Second Annual Girls’ Night Out. Hosted by Beebe Medical Center, it might be hard to come by tickets for this free event at the Atlantic Sands Hotel & Conference Center in Rehoboth Beach that honors guests Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester and Carl M. Freeman Companies CEO Michelle Freeman with “An Evening Of Girl Talk And Health Empowerment.”
• 13th Annual Saving Our Sisters Conference (March 10). Technically not IWD, but relevant, Actress Jasmine Guy will be the featured guest for this National Women & Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day event. The day includes discussions focused on positive self-image, self-worth, empowerment, healthy relationships, HIV preventio, and the importance of medical treatment for women and girls living with HIV/AIDS. At the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Claymont. Tickets are $50 for adults 17 and up, $25 for girls aged 8–16, includes breakfast, lunch and snacks.
