The year started with an announcement about a special designation from Bloomberg Philanthropies and grant funding for the city’s new innovation team. Now they’re hiring.
The new postings indicate the city is looking to form a change-making foursome.
The job openings include: Innovation Team director, program manager, an experienced data scientist and a civic designer.

The idea behind the Bloomberg-backed team is to address a specific challenge that the city faces in a new way, and will have technical assistance from Bloomberg Philanthropies. The focus of Baltimore’s team has yet to be identified. It’s a new group within the city, and the job descriptions indicate they will work across departments.
Throughout last year’s mayor’s race, candidates talked about how hiring innovative thinkers and technologists was a key way for City Hall and the tech scene to come together. This seems like as good an opportunity as any to make that happen.
